Aria is built by one person who believes your feelings are private. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

what we collect

• Email address — used for magic link authentication. We never send marketing emails.
• Mood text — the words you type to describe how you feel. Processed in real time to generate music recommendations, then discarded. We do not store your mood text on our servers.
• Device identifier — a random ID generated and stored on your device to maintain your listening profile across sessions.
• Music preferences — genres, artists, and feedback (likes, skips) you provide. Used to personalize recommendations over time.
• Listening activity — which songs are played, liked, or skipped during a session. Used to improve recommendations via your preference profile.
• Location (optional) — if you grant permission, used to get weather conditions for context-aware recommendations. Processed in real time and never stored on our servers.

how we use your data

• Authentication — your email is used to send one-time sign-in links. No passwords are stored.
• Recommendations — mood text and listening history are processed to find music that fits how you feel right now.
• Learning — your feedback trains a per-device preference profile so Aria gets better for you over time.

Our legal basis for processing is legitimate interest (providing the service you requested) and, where applicable, your consent.

what we never do

• Sell your data to anyone. Not now, not ever.
• Share your mood text or listening data with third parties for advertising.
• Use your data to train AI models beyond your own preference profile.
• Build social features or make your data visible to other users.
• Send push notifications begging you to come back.

third-party services

• Apple Music — Aria uses MusicKit to play songs from your Apple Music subscription. Apple's own privacy policy applies to your Apple Music usage.
• Spotify Web API — used server-side to search for tracks and retrieve audio features. No Spotify account is needed and no user data is sent to Spotify.
• Resend — used to deliver magic link emails. Your email address is shared with Resend solely for email delivery.
• Plausible Analytics — used on our website for anonymous usage statistics. Plausible does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and is fully GDPR compliant. No data is shared with third parties.
• Fly.io — our hosting provider. Data is processed in the EU (Paris region).

data storage and security

Your preference profile is stored on secure servers located in the European Union (France). Authentication tokens are short-lived and stored in your device's Keychain. All connections use TLS encryption.

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion at any time (see below).

your rights

Under the GDPR and applicable privacy laws, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Deletion — request complete deletion of your account and all associated data.
• Portability — receive your preference data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Rectification — correct any inaccurate personal data.
• Restriction — request that we limit how we process your data.
• Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
• Complaint — lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

children

Aria is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16 without parental consent, in accordance with GDPR Article 8. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data without appropriate consent, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

international transfers

All data is processed and stored within the European Union. We do not transfer your personal data outside the EU/EEA.

changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated through the app.
